Tourism Generated Local Community Benefits:

– across 10 World Heritage Cities in South East Asia 1999-2001

This major project, initiated by Richard Englehardt from UNESCO Bangkok, brought together local community leaders and international experts, including Graham Brooks for a series of workshops.

These workshops explored, developed and tested methodologies to capture benefits from tourism for the host communities.

Among the World Heritage towns that participated were Melaka, Bhaktapur, Lijiang, Vigan, Kandy, Levuka, Luang Prabang and Hoi An.

Subsequent inspections revealed the successes that many of the participating towns had achieved from this project.
