Allen St, Glebe
Daniel Boddam
Located on a small lot in a quiet street of single storey Victorian and other brick cottages, the architect’s challenge was to replace an ill-fitting modernistic 1970s house with a contemporary dwelling that would nevertheless belong in the Heritage Conservation Area.
GBA Heritage worked closely with Daniel Boddam Studio to blend a sophisticated contemporary design with the street’s heritage character, by carefully referencing local design characteristics such as scale, height, roof form, colour, materiality and solid to void ratio.
The result, a miniature, celebratory demonstration of how heritage and modernity can not only live together but enliven each other, was recently approved for construction by the City of Sydney.
