Building Conservation Advice

The Burra Charter: The Australia ICOMOS Charter for Places of Cultural Significance, 2013, provides the foundation philosophy and methodology for best practice heritage conservation in Australia. It guides all the professional conservation work undertaken by GBA Heritage. The Burra Charter provides clear definitions of the various actions which can be applied when undertaking a conservation project. These are Maintenance, Preservation, Restoration, Reconstruction, and Adaptation. It also sets out methodologies for ensuring responsible and respectful conservation of the cultural significance of an historic place or building, suggesting cautious but comprehensive approach within a framework that can respond to the ever-present changes that can and do effect the current and future integrity and use of such buildings and places.
